With vases in all shapes, sizes and colors to choose from, the possibilities for styling your vase or planter in your home and deciding what to fill it with are nearly endless! Here are a few rules of thumb to help you decide how to make your new vase a statement piece amongst your home decor.
The Right Proportions
Remember this important rule: when working with florals - faux or real - you want to make sure the height of the stems are between 1.5 and 2 times the height of the vase itself. These proportions are most aesthetically pleasing to the eye. ]
One is a Lonely Number
Grouping vases and containers together can help to create a cohesive look in your decor. Try to group them together in odd numbers, such as three or five, and play with mixing different sizes and shapes within the group to create a dynamic and interesting look.
Think outside the box
Just because it’s a vase, doesn’t mean you have to put flowers in it. Sometimes an empty vessel has an even greater impact. Consider using empty vases as bookends on your etagere, or transforming one into a terrarium if you have a green thumb.
Create a cohesive look
Choose colors that complement your existing decor and use them consistently for all your vases and containers. This will help pull together your aesthetic from room to room. Another option would be to pick vases and containers in similar materials and carry that motif throughout your home.
