From Concept to Creation

Designer Ashley Chenard recently had the opportunity to design some custom throw pillows for our Old Saybrook Showroom to complement the wallpaper accent wall in our Shade Shop. The result is absolutely stunning!

To showcase Saybrook Home's custom upholstery capabilities, Ashley chose to create four throw pillows in different shapes and sizes and with a variety of trims and styles.

The first step was deciding on the color story. This was the easy part. The wallpaper selection was Dahlia by Anna French for Thibaut. A beautiful compilation of blue and aqua with a touch of gold, Ashley sought to emulate this same color story in her pillow design.

Next, Ashely always sketches out her work first. This helps her organize her thoughts. For these particular sketches, she had certain design elements in mind that she wanted to implement. In some cases, she already knew which trim she wanted to incorporate and sketched based on those distinct selections.

Choosing the fabrics and trims can be daunting when there are literally hundreds to choose from in our showroom. Ashley narrowed down her options and then ultimately decided with some input from the team. She took into consideration color, texture, scale and pattern for each individual pillow.

Finally, it was time to bring all these components together to create the pillows. The final product is elevated, classic and absolutely stunning!
