Designers Teresa Contadino and Cheryl Homan recently teamed up to pull together a staging project for a very unique property in Saybrook Point just a mile or so away from Saybrook Home’s flagship store. As brand new construction, the home was a perfect blank slate for the duo to let their imaginations run wild.
The client opted for a more modern look when it came to cabinetry, stone features and lighting fixtures throughout the home. Overall, the predominant color was white with a classic navy blue for all the interior doors.
The Colors of Nature
Given these established parameters, Teresa’s goal was to infuse the home with the natural colors inspired by the home’s phenomenal sweeping vista of the Old Saybrook Causeway. Splashes of color were added with the thoughtful use of wallpaper in the powder room, primary bathroom and bar area. From there, a color story was created and spilled from one room to the next to create one cohesive design. Pulling in warmer tones from the granite fireplace really created an inviting atmosphere and softened the modern elements.
Contemporary Flair
Cheryl and Teresa leaned into the contemporary vibe with beautiful Indo-artisan hand-knotted rugs in the primary bedroom and living room, the hues of which pulled from every corner of the property (inside and out). The shapes of the lamps, the simple design of the end tables and a clean, crisp slipcovered sofa all complemented each other perfectly. Elements of metal, glass and wood were all implemented for texture and interest.
Accessories for Days
Features such as a unique clear glass pantry demand accessories that excel in both form and function. Playing off the color of the wormwood in the bar area, Cheryl opted for wood and woven accessories in the pantry. The glass vessels gave a nod to the home’s coastal location.
“Our goal was ultimately to add warmth to the space to make it feel inviting while also celebrating the view, which speaks for itself,” said Teresa. “The resulting design is modern and sophisticated yet cozy and approachable.”
