We Ship Nationwide!
January 22, 2021

Just because we are located in Old Saybrook, CT, does not mean you need to be too! Throughout the years we have decorated and furnished homes from Maine to Puerto Rico to countless second homes in Florida.  We coordinate not just what fabrics go together, but the logistics of delivery to anywhere in the United States!

We at Saybrook Home offer white-glove furniture delivery to all corners of CT as well as some border towns in MA, NY, and RI. We have our fleet of trucks and staff to ensure you receive the same high-quality service from the beginning to the end of your experience.

However, if you do not live in our area or have a second home that you need help furnishing, we partner with a nationwide delivery company that services all of the continental United States!  Because of our great partnership, the delivery rates are very reasonable, and the service is top-notch.

We have even coordinated delivery to Rincon, Puerto Rico by sea freight, and flew down two of our designers to ensure everything was laid out exactly as it should be!

    January 13, 2021

Accidents happen while living with kids, pets, and even everyday use! Choose to upholster your custom furniture with our wide variety of performance fabrics to make for easy cleaning and a long-lasting good look.

    – Remarkably Durable
    – Stain Resistant
    – Odor Resistant
    – UV/Fade Resistant
    – Easy to Clean
    – Long-Lasting

Performance fabric qualities won’t wear or wash away because they are permanently bonded to every fiber

for fabric that truly performs like magic.

How to spot clean performance fabrics

Most liquids simply roll off of performance fabrics, or they can be quickly blotted off the surface with a dry towel or sponge. The spot cleaning method of stain removal can be used for most light to medium stains, such as coffee, red wine, crayon, and ketchup. Be careful to brush lightly since fibers can be broken or matted during the cleaning process.

    • Before spot cleaning, blot up liquids on the surface with a clean, soft towel and brush off any loose dirt.
    • Prepare a cleaning solution of 1/4 tsp mild, dishwashing detergent, per 1 cup of lukewarm water.
    • Apply a cleaning solution using a misting spray bottle. Do NOT oversaturate when applying the cleaning solution.
    • Work the solution into the affected area by lightly scrubbing the area with a sponge or soft bristle brush. Make sure to work from the outside of the stain inward so as not to spread the stain and rinse your sponge or brush frequently.
    • Allow cleaning solution to soak into the fabric.
    • Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residues, as residues will attract dirt. Blot excess moisture with a clean, soft towel or sponge.
    • Repeat steps 3-6 as needed.
    • Allow fabric to air dry.

Don’t compromise a good look for durability – have the best of both worlds!

      New Year, New Style
      January 8, 2021

With a new year comes new design styles, and we at Saybrook Home could not be more excited to introduce 2021’s most exciting home decor trends!

When you shop at Saybrook Home, you’re shopping for the highest quality and best materials offered in the home furniture industry. Our manufacturers are committed to preserving the resources of our world for future generations. They strive to minimize their waste and conserve the energy they use to produce beautiful and lasting pieces while conserving the environment around them.

      COLOR

At Saybrook Home, we are big fans of adding pops of color and statement pieces to your room. But in 2021, we’re going to see more color everywhere! Say goodbye to your all-white interiors, and start creating your rooms with a vibe. Statement fabrics and colors will be mix and matched to combine all your favorite textures and colors.

      MATCHING

When it comes to decorating your bedroom, you no longer need to worry about purchasing the entire matching furniture set! The matching style of furniture pieces is becoming more and more dated by the year, and it’s time to add complementary and textured pieces instead to create your own set. Pair your antique mahogany dresser with a rattan end table and a floral upholstered end-of-bed bench. It’s time to display all your favorites instead of settling for just one look!

      GRANDMILLENIAL

One of the newest and unique styles making its way into 2021 is the Grandmillenial design style. Grandmillenial is a tasteful mix of your grandmother’s antiques with new fresh takes on classic colors and patterns. Incorporating bold floral patterns with classic china is the epitome of the effortlessly put-together style. Chinoiserie vibes and childhood remembrances make this style so attractive in 2021.

      TEXTURE

Earthly elegance made its way indoors in 2020, and now it’s time to enhance it! 2021 is all about feeling good, and plants, natural fibers, and nature vibes do exactly that. Wicker and rattan have already been creeping into your decor, and 2021 is the time to embrace the natural fiber looks! Accessorize your room with real or faux florals and greens, and elevate the look with natural fiber throw pillows and accents. Mix all of your natural textures for a truly comforting vibe!

No matter what trends you want to keep from 2020 or try for 2021, we’re here to help. Saybrook Home carries pieces to fit ALL design styles, needs, and comfort levels. 2021 is all about YOU!

Your Guide to Finding the Perfect Rug

When choosing the right rug for what we like to call the fifth wall in your room, the size you purchase is crucial to the finished look. Using a too-small rug may make the room look cramped yet empty, and a rug to large will look like a poorly done wall-to-wall carpet. Here at Saybrook Home, we don’t just help you choose your rug’s style and look; we ensure the correct sizing to help your vision come to life.

In a living room, tv room, or sitting room, the front legs of sofas and chairs should all be comfortably on the rug. There should also be at least 6″ of space on the side of each furniture piece to frame out your sitting area. You can go a little bigger in rug size in this scenario, but you never want to be too small. Too small will make that one section of the room look crowded. Leave at least 1″ between the end of the rug and the wall; this way, you can expose the floor underneath and anchor the desired area. Otherwise, without this space, the rug will look like wall-to-wall flooring.

        Best Sizes: 8’x10′, 10’x14′, 12’x18′

In the dining room, all dining chair legs should be on the rug when fully pulled out. If your dining table has an extendable leaf, add the additional length or width on your rug to accommodate the extra chairs and extendable table length. No chair should be half on the rug and half off or completely off when someone is seated or adjusting their seat.

        Best Sizes: 8’x10′, 10’x14′

In the bedroom, your rug should extend 1 foot on each side of your bed frame. This leaves plenty of room for you to step when you’re leaving or getting into bed. Depending on the bedroom’s size, you can also afford to go with a larger size rug if it means anchoring a designated area or including your nightstands or end-of-bed bench.

        Best Sizes: 8’x10′, 10’x14′

Entryway rugs or runners should be centered to and frame the front door. Rug and runner sizes in an entryway will depend on the floor space’s full length and width, additional furniture pieces, and your stairwell location (if applicable). You don’t want a rug too bulky or large to affect how the door is opened, and you certainly don’t want a rug too small to suit the walkable space. Consider the location of your front door, stairwell, and daily foot traffic.

Other areas of your home that can hold a gorgeous rug are your stairs, kitchen, and bathrooms! These areas are often reserved for runners, staircases being a more custom approach. No matter what these areas of your home look like, our design team at Saybrook Home can help you in every step of the process to find the perfect rug solutions.
