Hibernation Mode: On
October 28, 2020

With the cold weather making it’s return to New England, it’s time to make sure your windows and window treatments are as energy-efficient and insulated as possible. Our winters can truly put our products to the test by blocking that unwanted draft, keeping the cold out, and the desired heat in. In winter months, your home heating escapes to the outdoors through your windows. With window treatments that provide insulation, you can reduce energy consumption, save on heating costs, and create a more comfortable atmosphere.

There are many ways to insulate your windows better for the winter season, and we’re here to help you! Choose heavier, thicker fabric curtains while keeping your room looking it’s best, or add an extra layer of honeycomb shades to your existing curtains for extra protection from the cold. As a Hunter Douglas Specialist, our showroom at Saybrook Home has endless options for window treatments to choose from. Whether you want to actively test out the Motorization and Automation capabilities or want to view the high-quality materials in person before purchasing, our showroom is ready for you.

Keeping your home energy efficient begins with your choice in window treatments, and once you find the perfect fit, let us get them installed quickly! Our experienced design professionals will help you select window coverings that meet your needs for privacy, light control, energy efficiency, and child or pet safety. We will also help you choose colors, textures, and finishes that complement your interior décor beautifully.

Finding the Perfect Pants
October 14, 2020

Finding the right pair of pants for your body type can quickly turn into a daunting chore if you’re unsure of exactly what you’re looking for. There are so many factors when choosing pants, but we’re here to help you find that perfect pair!

FITS

Bootcut – Bold silhouette with a tapered fit that flares at the ankle. Bootcut styles have a major flattering effect, adding shape to your figure.

Straight – Straight fit from knee to hem. Straight styles compliment any body shape, balancing out your figure and creating a longer leg look.

Skinny – Snug from hip to hem. Skinny styles accentuate your lower half and flatter your backside!

Slim – A combination of Skinny and Straight, with a tapered fit from knee to hem. Slim styles show off your curves without being too fitted.

Wide-Leg – Loose fit from thigh to hem. Wide-leg styles give a nod to workwear pants while flattering and elongating your shape. Great for style, as long as the top is cropped or shorter to balance out your figure.

COLOR

Dark Wash – More “formal”. Dark wash jeans can pair nicely with a button-down shirt or blouse for the office or girls’ night out.

Medium Wash – Can be casual OR formal. Medium wash jeans can be dressed up or down simply, depending on your top and accessory use.

Light Wash – More casual. Light wash jeans are perfect for running errands, family time, and lounging around the house!

Choose a color for whatever floats your boat! All colors can work for any event or activity. Try to think of other colors besides basic denim! Pants can be in greys, blacks, pinks, greens, plaid, polka dots, you name it! Fashion has no limits.

LENGTH

In most cases, the length is the deciding factor of what you will buy. Your shoe choice affects how long your pants should be! If you want to wear a short bootie, ankle-length is the way to go. If you want to wear flats or sandals, you can wear longer bootcut pants or cropped wide-leg pants; you have more options!

FABRICS

The fabric will affect the level of stretch in your pants. Because of that, pants such as corduroy will have less stretch and therefore you may need to size up. Denim is known to have more stretch, so you may need to even size down. No matter the fabric, you should always try on the pants to ensure a perfect fit. All brands, fabrics, and cuts are slightly different in their sizing.

Upholstered Furniture Customizations
October 8, 2020

Do you wish a fabric’s stripes could run horizontally instead of vertically? Are there two fabrics that you want to collage on a chair? Do you love a fabric’s pattern, but you’re concerned with how it will be upholstered?  At Saybrook Home, you have nothing to fear, as we can take care of all of that!  When you order an upholstered piece from us, we have the unique capability of customizing exactly how your fabric will be applied!

From dining chairs to sofas, your upholstered piece can be exactly as you wish. If you choose a patterned fabric, our manufacturers can create a seamless application, so the patterns look entirely uninterrupted all around.

Our manufacturers cut each pattern individually to center the design and create an uninterrupted pattern flow carefully. Stripes and plaids are matched in every direction throughout the entire piece of upholstery. Even welts are precisely placed so that stripes and plaids flow flawlessly. The difference shows!

Another capability we have at Saybrook Home is a fabric application known as a “collage.” A collage is when you use multiple fabrics to cover one piece of furniture. With this application, we can use a more extravagant and delicate fabric on the back and sides while the more functional part of the chair holds a more durable fabric. This technique is wonderful to achieve a designer look for a lesser price, and will even last longer in the end if you choose a performance fabric on the seat.

Decorative Treatments also play a huge role in your upholstered pieces overall look. Legs, skirts, bandings, contrast welts, and fringes can all be incorporated into your final design to truly help elevate the final look. Contrast and accent pillows can also be completely custom with your choice of contrasting welt, brush fringes, rope welts, and decorative tapes.

We understand custom designing your furniture may seem overwhelming; that’s why we’re here to help! Our talented team of designers is here to make the process as easy and enjoyable as they can. Schedule a design appointment today to get your project started!
